TENURE TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSORS
AQUATIC ECOLOGY AND BIOCHEMISTRY
The Department of Biological Sciences, Michigan Technological University, invites applications for tenure-track Assistant Professors in Aquatic Ecology, and Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, to support the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs. In Aquatic Ecology, applicants should have backgrounds in, for example, food web interactions and ecosystem dynamics, global environmental change, evolutionary studies, land-water interface investigations, aquatic invertebrates, or disease/parasite studies. Areas of expertise for the position in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology include biological chemistry or microbial biochemistry; of particular interest will be candidates working in protein biochemistry and in health-related biochemistry.
Successful applicants will hold a Ph.D. and possess postdoctoral experience; they will be expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program to complement our growing doctoral program. Candidates will be strongly committed to undergraduate and graduate education in their areas of expertise.
Biological Sciences is housed in the award-winning Dow Environmental Sciences and Engineering Building; a new Great Lakes Research Laboratory is also being built on our waterfront. The Department of Biological Sciences consists of 17 full-time faculty members, nine adjunct faculty members in other MTU departments, seven full-time staff as well as a number of research personnel. The department offers 4 undergraduate degrees as well as the MS and PhD in Biological Sciences. We currently enroll approximately 280 undergraduate students and 21 graduate students, more than half of whom are PhD candidates. Approximately half of our undergraduate students are enrolled in medically related (premed and Clinical Lab Sciences) programs.
